The Short Version
GoodWe solar battery installation quotes are only useful if they describe the whole system. A lower number with missing line items is not a bargain. It's a change order waiting to happen. The quote is the first piece of installation documentation, not a sales form.

Here's the counterintuitive part: a quote that looks over-specified is usually the one that saves money in the long run.
The first thing I ask for is a breakdown. Here's the thing: if a quote bundles everything into one number, I can't manage it. One more thing: I look for safety certifications. Modern energy storage systems should reference standards like UL 9540 or IEC 62619. If the quote is silent on safety standards, I ask why.

If the project includes an EV charger, the quote should treat it as part of the same system. A separate EV charger quote can miss the connection between charging a car and charging a home battery.

How Do You Charge a Lithium Battery?
One question I hear a lot from customers is 'how do you charge a lithium battery?' Usually they're coming from lead-acid batteries and expect to manage the charge manually. The honest answer: you don't. The battery management system does.
Most lithium-ion and lithium iron phosphate batteries use a two-stage charging process: constant current until the cells reach a target voltage, then constant voltage as the current tapers. The charger does the math. The BMS protects the cells. You don't need to time it or 'top it off' the way you might have with an older battery.
There are a few rules that matter. A lithium battery won't charge below 0°C in most systems because the BMS locks it out to protect the cells. It won't charge if the cell voltage is too high. It won't let you set a charge level that the hardware can't safely handle. So the question becomes 'how do I set the charge window and backup reserve?' That's the part you'll actually interact with, and it should be configured during commissioning.
Charging speed is described as C-rate. A 0.5C charge rate means the battery can be refilled in roughly two hours. In a home storage system, the inverter's max charge power is often the real limit, and that's set during commissioning.
This is where prevention beats correction. If the installer documents the charging settings and backup reserve in the quote, you won't get a late-night call from a customer whose battery never charged.

JCPL Smart Meters and Bidirectional Power
If your project is in New Jersey, the JCPL smart meter rollout matters. A smart meter measures power flowing in both directions. That means the inverter and storage system need to be configured to work with net metering or the utility's specific meter setup. An old analog meter couldn't tell the difference. A smart meter can.
I can only speak to what we're seeing in our own projects, and this worked for us, but our situation was a North American utility with standard net metering. If you're dealing with a different utility, the calculus might be different. Still, on every storage quote, I ask the same question: 'Does this system include the GoodWe smart meter or a compatible CT setup, and is it configured to match the utility's meter?' If the answer is 'it's included,' I ask to see where it's listed in the quote.
This is one of those details that feels small on paper and very large when the utility won't approve the interconnection. Better to sort it out before signing.

If you're a homeowner buying one system, or a developer working under European grid codes, treat this as a general map, not a checklist. Your local utility, permitting process, and equipment availability will dictate what matters most.
